E.M.C. de Vreede-Volkers

Management assistant
Terahertz Sensing (THZ), Department of Microelectronics

Biography

Before my TU employment, I start working with the KLM at Schiphol Airport on the age of 17, first an administrative job at the KLM Catering, later at the Ticket Office as a ticket writer (before the ticket computer was introduced, we wrote the tickets by hand) and after that as a ground hostess.

Later on I was the secretary of the Director General at the Ministry of CRM in Rijswijk.

In 1993 I started at the TU Delft with the RBA Centre at Civil Engineering. The RBA Centre was also a part of the Law Section.

After 2 years I started at the faculty WTM (Wijsbegeerte en Technische Maatschappijwetenschappen) as the secretary of the Law Section itself for 17 years and switched to the System Engineering group for a couple of years.

The last 5 years I was employed at the TeraHertz Sensing Group, which was my best section ever!
I enjoyed working with the professors, Andrea Neto, Nuria Llombart Juan and Jochem Baselmans.

The interaction with the staff, the promovendi, the students and the total freedom of working was something completely different as I had experienced before.

But, before you know you are celebrating your retirement, after 50 years of working.

On my last working day 28.09.2022 (also my 67th birthday) I received an incredible and unforgettable farewell party from the group and a lot of incredible presents, for which I am very grateful!

I am not sitting “behind the geraniums”, as a Dutch saying goes, because I keep continuing teaching flamenco dance at the VAK, Centrum voor de Kunsten in Delft.

And, we travel a lot now, even more than I already did…. 😊
